Mrs. Koertzen Kindergarten

school.jpgMy name is Lauren Koertzen, and I joined NGSA last year as a kindergarten teacher.   I enjoy working with young children and welcome the opportunity to teach at a school with such an engaging educational program and accomplished staff.

I graduated from the University of California San Diego with a BA in literature and a minor in general science.  I hold both the multi-subject (elementary) and single subject, English California State teaching credentials.  I have a Masters in language education from the University of Indiana, Bloomington with an emphasis on reading instruction as well as specialized training in early childhood education through Mira Mesa College.

I have had the opportunity to live, study and teach in several states and countries.  I studied biology for a year at the University of York in England and taught kindergarten for three years at an American School in the Canary Islands.  I have taught preschool, kindergarten, and the primary grades in various places in California, Oregon and Washington.  My experience includes working with intermediate students as an ELD (English Language Development) specialist and as a math intervention teacher.

I enjoy cycling, quilting, reading, gardening and watching PBS Mysteries.  I also spend a great deal of time cheering for my wonderful and very athletic thirteen year old son who plays soccer, basketball and golf.

My family relocated to Tracy last year when my husband, Henry, accepted a position at Curtis Instruments in Livermore.   I am grateful that our move has afforded me the opportunity to teach at the Next Generation STEAM Academy and am very much looking forward to another wonderful school year.
